Unfortunately I don't think that I will ever achieve this level of recognition using the
name "TheDesignShrink." I should have run a quick search on it before choosing it since
others have already dominated the search for this name. I hope that my grade is not hurt
by the fact that I will not in 12 weeks get this name as recognized as I think the professor
has intended for us to achieve. Search engine optimization can take a very long time and I
don't think that 12 weeks will give me enough time to dominate the search, but that doesn't
mean I won't give it a try! |
I love your online presence. It’s very authentic looking. You show a lot of optimism with the number of followers on your twitter account and by the looks of your page, it seems like you could get there.
ReplyDeleteDon’t put so much pressure on yourself Shrink, or should I call you Design Ego? I wanted you to design some meta content as you’ve done here. I can’t expect you to produce this entire presence in the real world in 12 weeks, especially with all the work I’m giving you.
ReplyDeleteThis is good. You could get more creative in your use of platforms. Maybe a few portfolio sites would be useful? Maybe YouTube or Tumblr or Instagram? A blog and a Twitter feed and a Facebook page is pretty standard.
I’m not sure about the word ego. You’ve made it a keyword. It’s all over this and it makes me bristle. That’s just a personal reaction and you might want to get other feedback. But “design ego” and “my ego” is what hits me immediately. Even if your larger theme is controlling egos and learning about egos, all I see is Ego.
This is the process. This is what class is about – looking at what works and what does not work. Helping designers understand how to deal with clients and vice versa is a good subject, but your design might be off. Even the name Design Shrink might not be the right phrasing. How many people want to be psychoanalyzed?
This is also why I’m not worried about you establishing a permanent presence online. This should be a trial run. You should feel free to change your name or your keywords or your entire focus if necessary. Writing, like design, is tossing a lot of drafts in the basket.
I could also be wrong here. I don’t want you to change everything. I want you to stand by your work. I love the story about you forgetting to press the record button. But other keywords might be more useful than ego. Clients & Agencies. Designing for Clients.
Some things to think about.
Great work.
I agree, I am not crazy about the ego thing. I started my own web presence as Sheetwise Design and I think that rings a little better with how I want to portray myself on my personal online presence. I just figured I couldn't use my existing web presence since my name is all over it! I started to turn towards Design Hero at one point, but realized how pretentious that was! Thanks for the feedback.
